Video analysis is a coaching and performance tool that is used in all sports around the world.
Athletes and coaches alike use this process as a way to review and find ways to help plan, prepare and progress performances for individuals and teams.
Having this tool available allow you to see what technical and decision making areas of your game you're performing well and identify those areas that need focus on in training to help progress your match performances
Firstly, it is making sure you are capturing the moment you want to focus on, making sure that you can see the ball and Goalkeeper. For example if it is a technical focus, then making sure you capture the full movement and performance of the technique.
You can use a phone, iPad or tablet or have a camera set up; using a tripod allows the adjust angles and gain a full perspective of the moment.
You can use this as part of your progress, for match performances, highlighting key moments within the game where there has been a positive action taken or opportunities for further action needed, for instance crosses or balls beyond the defence. To do this, make sure you capture the full area and set up camera in line with the 18 yard line to gain the best perspective of the moment to make clear learning opportunities.
Another option is to ask a coach or someone trusted who understands the role to help provide another perspective and ideas to progress your game.
Be realistic, evaluate and plan your areas of needed progress, as well as those areas you perform well.
We are happy to assist you in providing feedback to areas at training, at times using video footage, and answer any questions that as a player you may have from your games or as a parent you may want to clarify.
If you have a question on this or help in defining the key moment from a match, please ask us.
